Kitchen Ventilation - Copper Hoods

I received this really cute email yesterday from an artisan who makes hand crafted copper hoods. Here it is:

Copper_Hood_2-1a.jpg"Hello, I am writing this letter in regards to a product I make that I think you might be interested in, Copper hood ranges, at the moment, I make them in my spare time but I would like to eventually make it a full time job, there a few different styles I can make and I attached a couple pictures.  By trade I am a welder and I learned how to make and design them while working for a company in Alberta Canada, I try to offer the the best possible price."

The fabricator said he works only with design professionals because there are so many critical dimensions involved into custom making a hood, including issues with shape and proportion. Pairing a hood with the proper ventilation appliance becomes a whole separate challenge as well, in terms of dimensions, cfms, ducting options, and more. Likewise, he prefers to communicate with a design professional on finishes, material properties, and all other details mentioned.

Design pros, contact me for further information.

My pleasure. Yes, copper is great. It's warm, it's sort of that organic look when it's distressed. Love it a lot.

The top hood was made by Mountains Edge Copperart Inc. the middle hood was made by VK Ferro Design and the last hood again was made by Mountains Edge Copperart Inc.

The person that claims they made these hoods is providing false information.

Hmmmm...well, maybe if the original letter writer could send me additional images of the backgrounds seen in the images above, that could be a step toward validating or not validating Shane's claim. Short of additional images of the area surrounding these hoods, I'd vote to go with Shane's claim. The Jeopardy song is starting....

Update... the letter writer is an ex-employee of Mountains Edge Copperart and he verified that he did send this letter and he apologized to me for using our material to publicize his abilities. He said he was no longer pursuing copper hood manufacturing and that he has no intention of using our photos in the future.

Furthermore; I have apologized on behalf of my ex-employee to those that had their photos used without permission.

As for the theme this seems a little more like a soap opera "Days of our Lives" soundtrack. Cheers.

As long as everyone is apologizing, I'm glad the original person's name was not used in the post. Not necessary to add insult to injury. Alls well that ends well. Now, Shane, tell us about your product...

Well, we focus primarily on the crafting of copper range hoods, sinks and countertops; although we have worked on many other projects including our current undertaking of a copper urinal. All of our copper fixtures are designed and handcrafted by skilled artisans. Our company is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and we have exported throughout the USA, Caribbean and Canada. We enjoy working with designers, homebuilders and home owners to develop a copper fixture that enhances the appeal of the overall kitchen design. From our website you can view our product at completion and some in finished kitchens. Thank you for the invite to discuss our products, I hope you all have a look at our site. Have a wonderful day and great blog Susan!

Being the person that personally handcrafted the hood in the middle photograph, I was rather surprised to see that someone was using it to market themselves. I know the person grabbed the image from Homeportfolio.com and that he was giving the impression that he produced the hoods in the images. I can tell you that it is no easy task to hand fabricate a hood to match existing mechanical hardware. I also applaud Shane Jost for correctly identifying the appropriate manufacturers of the hoods and apologizing for his former employee. I would say that speaks alot for him and the company he represents.
