Introducing The Top Secret Project

It is my pleasure, as I sit here in Copenhagen writing this post, to introduce my readers to a very special new line of kitchen and bath, and other furniture, new to the U.S. as of right now!

Hansen "Living Kitchen Architecture" is a line of kitchen furniture unlike anything in the U.S. kitchen and bath marketplace today.

Hansen is designed by Danish Architect, Knud Kapper MAA MDD. Architect designed, the aesthetic is elegant, modern, yet timeless.

Hansen is 100% eco friendly, using woods from managed forests, to adhesives, to finishes, all eco friendly, to the construction method, which features SOLID WOOD throughout every single piece.

There is so much more to share with you, and I will...in the meantime, please visit the Hansen website.

Last night, I attended a fantastic event, the redesign opening event of Hansen's Copenhagen showroom. More on that event later! Oh, the theme? New York, New York!

Nice. Very good looking cabinets. And, no toe kicks. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about toe kicks. Like, why do they exist? And, they can look pretty bad. I hope it passes!

We spent part of our honeymoon, lo 25 years ago, in Copenhagen. Lovely city.
Lucky you!

First of all: congrats! Susan Serra Associates, Inc. - that sounds exciting. :)

Do you know the feeling when you love something SO much that you almost hoped you'd never find anything like it? Because from the moment you see it you NEED to have it, no matter how expensive it is? I think that's the case with me and this gorgeous kitchen and bath furniture. Love love love it. *sigh*

I love free standing kitchens and their "Instant Kitchen" is a perfect match of form and function. Congratulations.

Linda, thank you! Appreciate your vote of confidence!

Kathleen, yes, it is a different concept, and it's actually about cleanliness, and the ability to clean the area easily underneath the kitchen furniture. Thought that might be an interesting detail!

Connie...stay tuned, there will be more detailed images coming very soon. There is much information to come.

modernmama, thanks so much for your comment. There is a lot of features that just make sense. I look forward to explaining more! Glad you like it!!

Beautiful collection. I love the solid wood construction and the matte stained finish. We've designed some cabinets with legs. Clients love the ease of cleaning.

What is the price point? I am assuming these are high end??

Do you have a showroom or local installation? How can your clients (and mine for that matter) see what they look like and function in person?

Congrats and best of luck!

Those kitchens are definitely gorgeous and I hate to be a downer, but this looks like more crazy-expensive kitchen porn that is ungettable unless you live in New Yawk City. We've been gearing up for a remodel for over a year, and in doing research I can't tell you how many websites like Hansen's I've come across. Half-finished, rarely-updated, Euro-centric, with a few tantalizing photos and almost no information. And no prices for damn sure.

There is a reason that Ikea is doing so well in the kitchen business. It's not that their products are better or even comparable to Hansen stuff. It's that they can actually be acquired.

Mark, I was going to contact you about this shortly, and you beat me to it! There are several ways to show the product. A model to scale may be in the near future, plus a forthcoming installation, and a showroom installation as well. More on that soon, and, of course, it takes a bit of time to design any kitchen, so in the meantime, I can begin the planning process with clients. It is a high end product, and it will have high end, yet not over-the-top pricing, partly due to their being a small company, working efficiently, and with smaller costs than large, marketing-focused companies.

sigh, sorry to read your negative point of view. It is based on erroneous assumptions, details, and comparisons, but of course, you are entitled to your opinion.

Susan,

Are you going to use these cabinets in your apartment remodel? Truly, they are quite handsome.

February 24, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterkathleen

Kathleen, thanks, and yes, they are really stunning in a simple, elegant, way. I saw two homes today, here in Denmark, with Hansen kitchens. I would say it this way, they have a presence in a space.

I was planning on using them in my apartment, and now I'm thinking about my house on Long Island instead, which has a very open floorplan, perfect, to really get a sense for the concept. I'll see...

Hi Susan,

Congratulations! Do you have a rough sort of time frame from the kitchen order to the cabinets landing in the US?

February 27, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKitchen Design

Hello there! I'd say around 3 months should do it, probably including shipping. That should be accurate.

February 28, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterSusan Serra, CKD

I love this site. You have some really great designs on here.
